"We" are the Hunnsbuckl or simply "Buckl" and his "Mommy" & designer Melanie Roeper-Mohr!
A slightly different but still creative team with a lot of love for details & a sense for daily adventures.
Many years ago, we made it our business to track down the gray corners of everyday life, to make them more colorful & simply hunnsbuckly.
How we gonna do that?
With lots of FUN, FANTASY & CREATIVITY!
With completely new & other IDEAS!
With designs to LAUGH!
With a hint of our homeland in Germany!
And very important: With the HUNNSBUCKL, who is as UNIQUE as all our designs!
We experience so many ADVENTURES no matter whether they are everyday or special!
We can't live without each other & sometimes not with each other - we are STUBBORN - both of us!
We fight our way through the quirks of technology & conquer new WORLDS!
We FILM, PHOTOGRAPH, TEXT & ILLUSTRATE our everyday life!
We LOVE what we do!
WE ARE WHO WE ARE! The Hunnsbuckl & his "Mommy".
But before you think that living & working with a Hunnsbuckl is uncomplicated, I have to tell you're absolutely wrong! Very much MISTAKEN!
He has a rather distinct character & an "energetic sense of stubbornness" - lets call it that way. He makes his "mum" laugh, smile and frown as you can see, because the ideas that little guy sometimes comes up with are anything but ORDINARY. Anybody can do "ordinary", right? He wants extraordinary, of course.
But just read what his "mum" thought of him as she created him & why he is like he is today:
// WHAT IS ACTUALLY A HUNNSBUCKL?
A tiny mountain from the Hunsrueck (a beautiful area full of nature, with huge forests & those tiny mountains in the western part of germany), which I literally picked out of the landscape. So if you're somebody in the Hunsrueck missing a tiny mountain, well...
// WHAT DOES HE LIKE?
The trees, the fields, the lakes, the villages, the birds, the forests, the individual houses in the distance, simply everything that can be found on a small hill.
// WHY DOES HE LIKE ALL THESE THINGS?
Because for a Hunnsbuckl or a mountain like him, nothing is as nice as hiding under houses, forests for example & waiting until he is discovered - or not. Balancing whole villages, cities, individual trees & lakes on his back, observing his "siblings" & comparing his own back with the ones around him. Looking for the "others", where are they hiding, what are they balancing on their backs? Exactly what I think a mountain would do if it was alive.
// HOW TALL IS HE OR HOW SMALL IS HE?
Since it is not one of the "real" hills or mountains in the Hunsrueck area but one of those I imagine in the distance at my favourite places in front of me, the size is manageable. More like a little "bump". Handy. He had to fit into the studio and still be a "living stumbling block".
// HOW DOES HE LIVE & WHERE?
Due to the relatively small "bump" -size he fits perfectly into a basket which is actually intended for firewood or magazines. He enjoys a cozy basket including one of my favourite vests (bye-bye it was nice wearing you - he won't give it back to me, I'm sure). He also likes living in our studio (my studio), mostly sitting on my desk (in or out his basket doesn't matter) disturbing the view & driving me crazy. He's pretty talented when it comes to disturbing.
// HOW DOES HE SEE THE WORLD?
Very curious & also shy. A little energetic. A bit annoying & stubborn. Clumsy. Impatient. He's interested in everything that moves. Adventurous. But in spite of all the "little problems & habbits" a very kind nature.
Sometimes like a little child sneaking around just before his birthday & looking for his presents, but then forgetting to pack the gifts back into the boxes, close them up again & cover the tracks. You just have to like him.
//RELATIVES? FAMILY?
Since every mountain, no matter how small, is in some way a ground elevation of which there are some different sizes all over the world, this question could be answered quickly: Of course! But he is really curious about some relatives he couldn't quiet place yet - molehills...
// AND HOW DOES THAT WORK WITH YOU "MOMMY"?
Stubborn meets Stubborn! Yeah, totally covers it. My today's "me" versus the past. Frowning at ideas which my head would actually call nuts & totally crazy, but which are so different in a way that they can only be a typical Hunnsbuckl.
// WHO IS THE "MOMMY"?
Melanie Roeper-Mohr born in Idar-Oberstein, like many great people including Bruce Willis (ever heard of that guy?), studied fashion design in Munich and has already struggled through the everyday life of the fashion and jewellery business and the editorial work at a magazine publisher. She has a preference for crazy things, obviously likes the colour green, has a very weird sense of humour and likes, no loves Britain and prefers a cup of tea to any other drink (at any time of day or year). A rather boring person, as you can see but still she is my mama.
